Work-Based Learning (WBL) offers students a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in real-world environments, bridging the gap between education and career success. This program is perfect for students looking to actively engage in their chosen career pathways, while developing essential technical, academic, and employability skills. 

Course Description

In partnership with iJAG, Work-Based Learning (WBL) at IGNITE Pathways provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in real work environments while developing essential technical, academic, and employability skills. Through WBL, students actively engage in their chosen career pathways, learning firsthand what it takes to excel in the workforce. This practical experience not only enhances their education but also equips them with valuable technical skills that are crucial for success in their future careers. Work-Based Learning Opportunities

Level 1: Foundations of Workplace Readiness

In this introductory level, students develop essential employability skills in a classroom setting. Through hands-on activities and discussions, they will learn the foundational skills needed to succeed in any workplace.

Competencies to Master:
? Professional communication (email etiquette, verbal interactions)
? Time management and punctuality
? Workplace safety and awareness
? Teamwork and collaboration
? Basic problem-solving and critical thinking

Students must demonstrate proficiency in these areas before advancing to Level 2.

Level 2: Career Exploration & Skill Development

Building on the foundation of Level 1, this stage allows students to explore career pathways while further refining their professional skills. Delivered in a class setting, students engage in career research, industry networking, and project-based learning.

Competencies to Master:
? Resume building and job application skills
? Interview preparation and professional presence
? Customer service and interpersonal skills
? Workplace adaptability and initiative
? Conflict resolution and decision-making

Completion of Level 2 prepares students for real-world application in Level 3.

Level 3: Personalized Work-Based Learning Experience

In the final stage, students meet one-on-one with the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator each month to set personal goals, track progress, and gain individualized guidance. Students may be placed in internships, apprenticeships, or job-shadowing experiences based on their career interests.

Competencies to Master:
? Professional networking and relationship-building
? Industry-specific skill application in a workplace setting
? Effective self-management and accountability
? Problem-solving in real-world work scenarios
? Leadership and personal growth in a professional setting

By mastering these competencies, students will be fully prepared to transition into the workforce with confidence.

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Be in good academic standing as determined by school counselors
  • Completed resume
  • Proficient scores on Professional Skills Rubric
