PRINCIPLES OF STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Explore the different types of skeletal muscle fibers and how they impact your workouts while discovering the physical adaptations your body undergoes with regular exercise. Whether you're an athlete or just passionate about fitness, this class will teach you how to build personalized, seasonal training plans that keep you improving year-round!

Course Description

This course will introduce students to the basics of strength and conditioning. Students will learn about a variety of topics related to this field of study.

Topics of Study

  • Exercises to train major muscle groups

  • Anaerobic and aerobic energy metabolism and how to train both systems

  • Skeletal muscle fiber types

  • Physical adaptations to exercise

  • General training principles (progressive overload, specificity, overtraining, etc.)

  • Developing seasonal training regimens (i.e., periodization)
