The Construction program introduces students to the basics of construction, from which tools are used for what, and takes them all the way through to building a house from the ground up. Students will learn how to read and design blueprints, and also explore the related trades of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
This program may be for you if you are interested in: Working with your hands, seeing the product of your work, building things, woodworking, designing objects or spaces.
Students will interact with professionals who have worked in construction fields and will participate in various site visits to experience aspects of a career in construction. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a home build or remodel working with local trade contractors in every stage of the construction process. Students learn job site safety, estimating, and scheduling.

This program prepares students for entry level jobs in the residential construction industry. This certificate program will expose students to carpentry theory, techniques, and building materials.
Students in the Construction Technology program can earn a certification through Iowa Western Community College. Paid registered apprenticeships are available.
There is a high demand for carpenters nationwide. Carpenters construct and repair building frameworks and structures—such as stairways, doorframes, partitions, rafters, and bridge supports—made from wood and other materials. They also may install kitchen cabinets, siding, and drywall. Entry level positions start at $24/hour or higher.
